Transient Weld Simulation using Element Birth and Death
Element Birth and Death is technique wherein, the stiffness of certain elements is activated (birth) or deactivated (death), based on the analysis state.
In Weld simulation, one obvious transient quantity is heat source, which is fairly easy to model. However in addition to heat, the actual transient quantity is the filler material. This material is gradually deposited, and hence can contribute to stiffness of the system only when the heat source has passed.
The Objective of this project was to study the cooling of the weld, and study the angular distortion of the weld plates, as different weld cool at different rates. Especially if the weld length in long enough, the process of cooling at the start progresses much further even before process of heating has begun at the other end.
